Thinking about starting to introduce your child to the potty can be overwhelming, to say the least. There are so many different methods and approaches. Start early? Wait until ready? Let me tell you...your child is ready when YOU are.
Whether you're interested in infant pottying (elimination communication), want to potty train but are not sure where to start, or are currently in the throngs of training and are seeking guidance, I'm here to help.
Elimination Communication (EC) is the practice of helping your baby retain the ability that he/she was born with to not soil themselves, their caregiver, or their sleep space, by assisting the baby to eliminate in a receptacle other than their diaper. Most parents practice EC part-time and diapers are used as a tool as opposed to the only option. By following your baby's signals, you can help them to go in a potty as early as birth!
What are the benefits to learning and using EC with your baby? When you help preserve your baby's instincts in this way by not conditioning them to always use their diaper as a toilet, you pave the way for early potty training, use less diapers day-to-day, and clean up far less poop! Less work now, less work later.
I can help you if you've already started with EC or are interested and just need pointing in the right direction. Once your baby starts using the potty, you'll be hooked!
Are you over diapers? Is your toddler over diapers? Your toddler is yearning for mastery and is ready when you are! In the US, the average age for potty training is 36 months (webmd.com, 2009). Did you know that this average age has nothing to do with capability. and has only risen this high due to the invention of disposable diapers, and the promotion of the idea of "readiness" by the diaper companies?
If you're struggling with potty training, or you're not sure where to start, I'd love to help you. It does not need to be a never-ending saga, as I know that this happens with some methods that are out there.
If you're already in the throws of potty training and just can't seem to wrap it up, we can work on trouble shooting together. If your child is having a specific issue, we can work on that too. If you are considering starting the process and don't know where to begin, I can lead you.
